The "NADH dehydrogenase 1 alpha subcomplex, 2, 8kDa pseudogene" is a nonfunctional copy of the NDUFA2 gene, which encodes a subunit of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I. Pseudogenes such as this are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but typically do not produce functional proteins due to mutations or deletions. As such, they lack direct biological or therapeutic relevance in terms of drug targeting, disease intervention, or diagnostic use. Functional versions of NDUFA2 are accessory subunits of Complex I, involved in mitochondrial electron transport; mutations in NDUFA2 are associated with Leigh syndrome, but the pseudogene does not play a pathological or therapeutic role[1][5].
